Artist Bio

Forms gather and dissolve in a space shaped by the unconscious. The fluid nature of the mind unfolds across Natalja Heybroek's work. It moves between intricate detail and expansive perspective, as the art reflects on the perception of the self.

Material and detail carry a physical presence that grounds the work's more elusive dimensions. Working across oil paint, molten metals, epoxy resin, and even bacteria as paint, layers build surfaces where organic forms emerge and dissolve — a language felt before it is understood, lingering where conscious thought recedes and the unconscious begins to surface.

Based in Paris, Heybroek has exhibited in New York, Chicago, Toronto, Berlin, and the Netherlands, where she collaborated with Iris van Herpen. An autodidact, she traces her instinctive way of making to her upbringing within the Findhorn Foundation community in rural Scotland, raised by Dutch parents. She comes from a lineage of artists and thinkers: her father was a poet, and her great-uncle, Pierre Cuypers, designed the Rijksmuseum.
